Back by popular demand, Noble Fool Theatricals presents Flanagan's Wake, the interactive Irish comedy now running in its 15th year throughout the U.S. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the comedy will be center stage to 'celebrate as only the Irish can' at Pheasant Run Resort for one night only (4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL; box office 630-584-6342).
Usually appearing in the informal Studio Stage at Pheasant Run for an extended run, Flanagan's Wake will be presented in Pheasant Run Resort's 320-seat mainstage theater on Saturday March 13, 2010 at 8pm only. Tickets are priced at $29. Special group rates and overnight packages are available. Drinks will be available just steps away from the theater at the Harvest Lounge.
Flanagan's Wake takes place in the village of Grapplin, County Sligo, Ireland, where the towns people tell tales, sing songs and mourn the passing of one of their own, Flanagan. Audience members are transported to the Emerald Isle to grieve as only the Irish can. They can share tales of their own experiences and misadventures about dear old Flanagan, or simply enjoy the stories and songs of the locals as they recall life with "Himself."
In late February of 1994, a group of actors, improvisers, and musicians thought to incorporate their talents at Irish brogues, improvisation, audience interaction and music to put together a show for the upcoming St. Patrick's Day. Thinking the show would last as long as the general public's taste for green beer, they put together an outline and started performing completely improvised wakes for dear departed Flanagan. The Wake continued to draw mourners long past that St. Patrick's Day, and has been going strong ever since, and is now in its 15th year.
Creators of Flanagan's Wake (a.k.a. Seat of Our Pants) include Jimmy Binns, Amy Binns-Calvey (director of the Noble Fool's critically acclaimed Mikado: Version 2005), Geoff Binns-Calvey, Jack Bronis (writer of Noble Fool's Vikings!), Mark Czoske, Phil Lusardi, Patricia Musker (star in Noble Fool's Roasting Chestnuts and Vikings!), Bonnie Shadrake (music creator of Flanagan's Wake, co-creator of Roasting Chestnuts, and musical director of Noble Fool's Ruthless!).
The cast of Flanagan's Wake at Noble Fool Theatricals features experienced actors in the Chicagoland area who have been performing the Irish Wake for several years.
