The Hope & Justice Festival begins with Rachel DuBose's "The Healer", a new play directed by Jerrell Henderson. In preparation to name Marin as the family's next "healer", a sudden death proves that something more sinister lies within her. Will Marin learn how to navigate her "darkness" before putting her family in grave danger? "The Healer" is May 19, 24, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m.
On May 20 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. Pegasus presents "Project Hope" by Hope 31:9, a spiritual collective whose mission is to serve as vessels for those whose voices demand to be heard. "Project Hope" is a compilation of powerful stage readings using hope as a catalyst for transformation. "We all have a story to tell," said Hope 31:9 member Jennifer Glasse. "A story of how we have arrived at our destination today. A story that gives us a meaning and a reason for tomorrow. When we share our stories, we open the door of hope for someone else." Featuring actors Angela Alise, Kona Burks, Colleen Fee, Glasse, Gail Hafar, and Mildred Langford.
Rounding off the festival is "Still I Rise" on May 21 and 28 at 9:30 p.m. Pegasus presents an exhilarating evening of Chicago's finest female artists of color exploring themes of standing strong amidst adversity, fighting for justice and finding hope in humanity. This is a no-holds-barred performance of storytelling, dance, music, poetry, sketch, stand-up and hip-hop. Each performance holds a different and exciting line up curated by Melissa DuPrey.
