On Wednesday, November 18th Chicago Opera Theater's (COT) young professional club Opera Underground will host "Beers and Baritones" at Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown Chicago. This cocktail hour is a perfect opportunity for Chicago area young professionals to meet up after work to drink, eat, and hear a little music. The event includes a short opera performance by COT Young Artists, Leila Bowie and Martin Woods.

"After only two seasons, I am pleased that COT's Opera Underground is expanding its activities outside of the spring season bringing with it the fun style and enjoyable company that have quickly become its trademarks," said General Director Brian Dickie.

The event will begin at 6pm at Rock Bottom Brewery (1 West Grand Avenue in Chicago). Guests will have their choice of Rock Bottom's locally handcrafted beers, fine selection of wine, and some light appetizers. There will be a complimentary business card raffle with prizes that include a pair of Opera Underground subscriptions to Chicago Opera Theater's 2010 Spring Festival Season. The event will be a great way for current Opera Underground members to mingle with people who are interested in something a little different to do on a Wednesday evening! At the event, there will be information on Opera Underground, a unique young professionals club in Chicago's thriving cultural scene.

In addition to drinks and mingling, the evening will also include a performance by two members of Chicago Opera Theater's Young Artists Program. Soprano Leila Bowie and baritone Martin Woods will present a short program of opera favorites. Ms. Bowie is in her first year as a Young Artist and Mr. Woods returns to the program for his second year. Both skilled young singers are a great match for the Opera Underground crowd. In conjunction with their work at COT they are earning their Professional Diploma in Opera from Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. The two will also perform as part of COT's Young Artist Recitals this spring at the Chicago Cultural Center and they will both cover roles for COT's 2010 Spring Festival Season at the Harris Theater in Millennium Park.

ABOUT CHICAGO OPERA THEATER

Founded in 1974 by Alan Stone, Chicago Opera Theater has carved a significant place for itself in the operatic life of Chicago and has reached an audience of hundreds of thousands through its main stage performances, outreach, education and young artist programs.

Since Brian Dickie's appointment as General Director in 1999, COT has evolved as an opera company that is young, fresh, and colorful - an image well suited to its surroundings at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.

Chicago Opera Theater's 2010 Spring Festival Season runs April 17 through May 16 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. The season opens with Rossini's Mosè in Egitto (April 17-25), followed by Cavalli's Giasone (April 24-May 2), and closes with Jake Heggie's Three Decembers (May 8-16) with Frederica von Stade.
