About Altar Boyz: "Armed with catchy melodies, heavenly harmonies, divine moves and gobs of hair product, the Altar Boyz are five small-town guys trying to save the world - one screaming fan at a time.  Presented as a concert in real-time, this hilarious musical comedy sweetly satirizes the phenomenon of boy bands, the popularity of Christian-themed music, and excessive product placement in contemporary American culture.  The group's amusingly pious pop act features laugh-out-loud lyrics such as "Girl You Make Me Wanna Wait" and "Jesus Called Me on My Cell Phone," say press notes.

Altar Boyz began performances on September 28 and has been met withoverwhelming audience response and widespread critical acclaim.  The Jeff-Recommended production is directed by Stafford Arima, choreographed by Christopher Gattelli (both of the original New York creative team), and produced by Joe McGinnis, a recent Tony Award(r) winner for Spring Awakening (Best Musical 2007), and Bart Kahn, who also serves as Resident Director.  Musical Director Alan Bukowiecki conducts a band on-stage comprised of Jeremy Ramey on keyboard, Ethan Deppe on drums, and Malcolm Ruhl on guitar.  Radio legend Roy Leonard can be heard as "the Voice of G.O.D." Since its debut in September of 2004 at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, and opening Off-Broadway in 2005, Altar Boyz has been lifting souls across the United States, as well as in Korea and Hungary, and was recently voted "Fan Favorite - Longest Running Off-Broadway Show" in the Broadway.com Awards.

The New York production also won the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best off-Broadway Musical and was nominated for seven 2005 Drama Desk Awards including Best Music, Best Lyrics, Best Book and Best Musical. Altar Boyz features a score by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker with book by Kevin Del Aguila, and is based on a concept by Marc Kessler and Ken Davenport.
