Registration is underway for the all new four-week Summer Classics Workshop at Oak Park Festival Theatre beginning June 20, 2011. There will be one session for middle school students and one for high school students. Students will learn about the classics in Austin Gardens where Festival Theatre performs its shows.
Other camps in the area are focused on musical theatre, while Summer Classics Workshop offers a unique alternative:
Students will not only work on their own performance material, but will also meet with the professionals involved in the Festival Theatre's productions of The History of King Henry the Fourth and Henry V and see the development of those plays. Shakespeare and other renowned authors' plays will be presented by instructors who are also professionally trained actors. The culmination of the workshop will be a student theatre performance. The workshop is appropriate for beginning to advanced levels. High School students will receive advanced training to prepare them for college and possible professional experience. One of the main goals of the workshop is to make the classics fun and accessible to all participants. Instructors are hand-picked for their enthusiasm and creativity.
Students will gain confidence, determination and the ability to deal with issues like studying, memorizing, and performing Shakespeare. Participants will be taught in an appropriate manner with support and understanding, and with skillful and gentle encouragement. The four week session for both junior and senior high students begins June 20, 2011. Students will attend the camp Monday through Thursday from 10am to 2pm. Tuition is an excellent value: two payments of $196.
