Northwestern University's Dolphin Show, America?s largest student-produced musical, is proud to announce its 68th annual production, Parade, a powerful, daring musical from the minds of Jason Robert Brown, Alfred Uhry, and Harold Prince. This year's Dolphin Show will be directed by School of Communication rising senior, Scott G. Weinstein and will open on January 22, 2010 in Cahn Auditorium at Northwestern?s Evanston campus.
“Now more than ever, Parade is a story that is begging to be told. We couldn?t be more excited about the opportunity to produce this epic and ambitious musical for the Northwestern and surrounding communities,” said Executive Producer Tom Casserly.
According to production notes, Parade brings the true story of the trial of Leo Frank, a Jewish man wrongly accused of murder, to emotional and theatrical life. In 1913, Frank, a Brooklyn-born factory manager living in Georgia, is put on trial for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor?s false testimony seal Leo?s fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience, and, eventually, his assimilated Southern wife who finds the strength
and love to become his greatest champion.
Boasting professional production values, impressive fundraising campaigns, a team of over a hundred passionate students, and an incalculable number of man-hours, The Dolphin Show is truly epic in scale. From its humble roots in a swimming pool in 1940 as a fundraiser for the Dolphin Club, to its status as the nation?s largest student-produced musical now housed in Northwestern?s Cahn Auditorium, The Dolphin Show has been a Northwestern tradition enjoyed by thousands over the past sixty-eight years. This year?s Dolphin Show will be produced by School of Communication students Zachary Baer, Tom Casserly, and Jamie Lynn White.
On top of being a dazzling production, The Dolphin Show is also dedicated to engaging the greater Chicagoland community though extensive outreach programming and community-focused events. This year?s Dolphin Show is also committed to creating partnerships with other Northwestern communities to expand its reach and help bring this poignant show to as many people as possible.
