The Neo-Futurists work to keep LGBTQ youth safe in Illinois schools while connecting to the queer community with the return of their Pride Weekend benefit. This year's event raises funds for both the Neo-Futurists and Illinois Safe Schools Alliance. 30 Queer Plays in 60 Straight Minutes is a special edition of Too Much Light... that pulls favorite queer-sexuality and gender bending themed plays from the past year into one fabulous Pride show.
The 2011 incarnation joins The Neo-Futurists and Illinois Safe Schools Alliance. The Alliance is the only organization in Illinois devoted specifically to the safety of LGBTQ youth in schools across the state. Their strategy includes 1) youth leadership development that allows youth to become catalysts of change 2) public policy reform with local government and school systems 3) professional development for school personnel 4) support for gay-straight alliances and 5) technical assistance. All funds raised by The Neo-Futurists go directly towards programmatic work in youth organizing. For more information, visit

Throughout the month of June, check out the Pride art exhibit in State Park, curated by Neo-Futurists Megan Mercier and Jay Torrence. Artists are invited to submit art of any medium for the exhibit by June 8. All submissions are to be auctioned off during Pride weekend with proceeds going directly to The Alliance. For more information about the call for art, email ProudNeofuturists@gmail.com or visit neofuturists.blogspot.com.
