The Free, Family-Friendly Celebration Encourages Local Community to Donate Necessary Books and Items to Children's Charities
WHAT: In honor of the back-to-school season and International Day of Literacy, NEWCITY is hosting a Literacy Collection Celebration Saturday, September 8 from 1 - 4 p.m., benefiting Lurie Children's and Chicago HOPES For Kids. At the celebration, families and children will be able to learn more about Lurie Children's, Chicago HOPES For Kids, sit out at the plaza to read borrowed books provided by Chicago HOPES For Kids. A balloon artist, face painter, free treats will be available.
As participating tenants of NEWCITY, Yard House will provide free kids meal cards to attendees, Earl's Restaurant has donated a gift card prize, German Kitchen Center is sponsoring kids treats and Evereve will give 15 percent of all purchases made by event attendees to Lurie Children's and Chicago HOPES For Kids. NEWCITY will also be holding a donation collection for necessary items for children who are not able to go back to school, due to serious illness or homelessness the week prior, September 1-8, leading up to the event.
