Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co. has been hosting Abbie Hoffman Died For Our Sins, a 3 day non-stop theater festival, for 24 years. This year will be the 25th Annual Abbie Hoffman Died For Our Sins Theater Festival. This festival was originally created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in Bethesda, NY. This would be the 44th anniversary of Woodstock. To celebrate the silver anniversary of Abbie Fest, as it is affectionately known as, it will be produced at The Den Theater, 1333 N. Milwaukee in Chicago. It will be on the weekend of August 9, 10, & 11. This expands the festival to 3 times its size. There will be 3 stages and 3 more performing groups and individuals than usual. There is anticipation of onwards of 150 performing groups and individuals. Each group will provide 1 hour or less of material. The mark of a successful fest is that each group performs only one time. That may not necessarily happen but that is the goal. The festivities will begin with a march from the Daly Plaza starting at 3 p.m. back to The Den and kick off is at 7p.m. with the opening ceremonies featuring Richard Cotovsky as Abbie Hoffman.
This year's fest will feature the likes of Rush Pearson, The Factory Theater, The Plagiarist, Lola Bolatro, Famous in the Future, Nothing Without a Company, The Inconvenience, A Red Orchid Theatre Co., Knife and Fork, Citizens' Relief, Blackforest Theater Co., Found Objects Theater, Dramageddon, Sid Branca, Abraham Werewolf, The Abbeys, Eremotherium, Fury Theater, Coldbasement Production, The Dictionary Project, Agitpop Theater, Cool Jacket, Democracy Burlesque, REVOLUTION Theatre Co., Big!, Wildclaw, WaywaRD Productions, and many more.
