Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co. has been hosting Abbie Hoffman Died For Our Sins, a 3 day non-stop theater festival, for 24 years. This year will be the 25th Annual Abbie Hoffman Died For Our Sins Theater Festival. This festival was originally created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in Bethesda, NY.
This would be the 44th anniversary of Woodstock. To celebrate the silver anniversary of Abbie Fest, as it is affectionately known as, it will be produced at The Den Theater, 1333 N. Milwaukee in Chicago. It will be on the weekend of August 9, 10, & 11. This will expand the festival to 3 times its size.
There will be 3 stages and 3 more performing groups and individuals than usual. There is anticipation of onwards of 150 performing groups and individuals. Each group will provide 1 hour or less of material. The mark of a successful fest is that each group performs only one time. That may not necessarily happen but that is the goal. The festivities will begin with a march from the Daly Plaza starting at 3 p.m. back to The Den and kick off is at 7p.m. with the opening ceremonies featuring Richard Cotovsky as Abbie Hoffman. There will be comedy, drama, music, stand up, jugglers, mimes, improvisation and more. Tickets are $10 for a day pass which allows patrons to come and go all day and all night and $25 for a weekend pass which allows patrons to come and go all weekend.
Patrons will be provided with a wristband and will be expected to wear it for every entrance. There is a staffed bar at The Den Theater which will be open as long as there is entertainment on the stages. There are many affordable choices to accommodate the rich and poor sufficiently. We are still recruiting participants and applications can be found on our website, www.maryarrchie.com Passes will be able to be purchased on Ticketweb and wristbands can be procured at the box office.
