GUYS AND DOLLS, the Tony Award winning musical comedy that brings to life the fabled Broadway world of high rollers, loveable lowlifes, and Salvation Army soul savers and features one of the great musical scores in the history of American theatre by Frank Loesser, previews January 26, opens Sunday, February 6 at 5 p.m. and runs through March 27 at the Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, IL. Directed and Choreographed by Matt Raftery in his Marriott Theatre directorial debut, GUYS AND DOLLS stars Brian Hissong as Sky Masterson, Jessie Mueller as Miss Adelaide, Abby Mueller as Sarah Brown and Rod Thomas as Nathan Detroit. Musical Direction is by Dr. Ryan Nelson.
Set in Damon Runyon's whimsical New York City, this romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy - introduces audiences to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the musical theatre canon. Completing the colorful and picturesque world of GUYS AND DOLLS is Frank Loesser's toe-tapping score, including favorites like "Luck Be a Lady," "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat," and "If I Were a Bell."
Desperate to find money to pay for his floating craps game and evade the heat of Police Lieutenant Brannigan, Nathan Detroit bets legendary gambler Sky Masterson a thousand dollars that Sky will not be able to take a local Salvation Army girl, Sarah Brown, to Cuba. While Sky works to swindle Sarah, he finds he is quickly falling in love. Meanwhile, Nathan battles with his fiancée of fourteen years, Adelaide, who's pressure to marry makes both Nathan and Adelaide lament. Later, in an effort to save Sarah's local Mission and win her heart, Sky bets the members of the floating craps game $1000 each in return for their souls - which amounts to a late night trip to Sarah's Mission to fill the pews with sinners. How things end up could be determined by one roll of the dice...
When GUYS AND DOLLS opened on November 24, 1950, it became one of the great successes of Broadway history running for 1,200 performances and winning five Tony Awards including Best Musical. It was subsequently made into a feature film starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra.
