The charming fairy tale classic CINDERELLA gets a contemporary new twist in Marc Robin's imaginative musical version opening July 8 and running through August 29, 2009 at Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive. Rachel Rockwell (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Disney's High School Musical and Aladdin) will direct and choreograph the production.
Orphaned and lonely, Cinderella spends her days as a housemaid for her wicked step-mother, Blanche, and lazy step-sisters, Giggeletta and Soberella. When the Prince invites every lady in the land to a grand ball at his palace, Blanche decides Cinderella cannot go unless she finishes an impossibly long list of chores. Left behind, a heartbroken Cinderella is visited by an enchanted Fairy Godmother.
With the help of her Fairy Godmother and some audience magic, Cinderella's rags are transformed into an elegant gown and she is transported to the palace in a magical coach. At the ball, the handsome Prince is captivated by Cinderella's beauty and kindness. Knowing that the spell will end at the stroke of midnight, Cinderella races home before the Prince can learn her name. With only Cinderella's lost glass slipper to guide him, the Prince sets out to find his true love. Through whimsical music and audience participation, children of all ages are invited to join in the fun as Cinderella learns that dreams really do come true.
CINDERELLA stars audience favorite Dara Cameron as Cinderella (Wizard of Oz, Little Women), and Andrew Keltz (Aladdin) as the Prince. Rounding out the stellar cast is Catherine Smitko as Blanch, Heidi Kettenring and Ericka Mac as the Sisters, Melody Betts as the Fairy God Mother, and Jackson Evans as Reginald.
Lead Artistic Director Andy Hite heads the artistic team, with direction and choreography by TYA favorite Rachel Rockwell. Musical Direction is by Michael Mahler, Sound Design by Robert Gilmartin, Costume Design by Nancy Missimi, and Properties Design by Rob Rahn. The Musical Supervisor is Patti Garwood, and the Marriott Theatre orchestra is conducted by Jeff Bell.
