MAC's Lakeside Pavilion Hosts Free Concerts Celebrating COD's 50th Anniversary

The MAC's Lakeside Pavilion swings into "back to school" mode when it hosts three highly entertaining concerts celebrating College of DuPage's 50th Anniversary Year. "It's not every year you hit the big 'five oh' so the MAC is proud to help the College share the excitement of this achievement with three must-see concerts to be enjoyed by alumni and the general public too," observed MAC director DiAna Martinez.

The three concerts are as follows:

Friday, Aug. 26, 7:30 p.m.

What happens when eight of Canada's most in-demand musicians and singers comprised of veterans of the Hall-of-Fame rock and soul acts like the Drifters, Sam and Dave, Aretha Franklin, Ben E. King, the Marvelettes, Frankie Valli, Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Del Shannon and the Mamas and the Papas get together out of a common love for the greatest jazz-rock group of all time, Chicago? You get Brass Transit. The band's show includes all the hits from Chicago's golden age including "Only the Beginning," "Color My World," "25 or 6 to 4," performed with world-class horn and rhythm sections and spot-on vocals. This concert, serving as a kick off to the 50th Anniversary, will be capped with t-shirt bombs and an appearance by Chappie, the COD mascot. This performance is sponsored by Follett's College of DuPage Bookstore. This concert officially closes out the 2016 Lakeside Pavilion Free Outdoor Summer Series.

The Chicago-based Jurassic beast of multiple musical faces performs a free David Bowie tribute concert at the MAC's Lakeside Pavilion. The concert caps a full day of activities taking place on the COD campus including COD Food Truck Rally (12 to 5 p.m.), Kid Zone/Touch-a Truck (4 p.m.), the 100-Yard Youth Dash* and Sunset 5K Race* (5 p.m.). *Online registration required for 5K and 100-Yard Youth Dash. To commemorate COD's 50th Anniversary, the 5K registration fee of $19.67 reflects the College's inaugural academic year of 1967. All proceeds benefit the College of DuPage "Brain Fuel" Pantry, a sustenance resource scheduled to open this fall, dedicated to ensuring COD students are not distracted from studies by hunger. Alumni Night Pep Rally Featuring the Chicago 6 - Former Chicago Bears Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson and Steve McMichael

Former Chicago Bears Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson and Steve McMichael joined by John McFarland and Matt and Ed Kammerer perform two 45-minute sets of good, fun music ranging from Motown to classic rock to country and unique covers of popular hit songs. The audience will also be treated to hilarious inside stories about Hampton, Wilson and McMichael's days with Da Bears. There will also be the opportunity for photos and autographs. The Chicago 6 was originally formed out of the free time created by the 1987 NFL strike. Since then, they've played at concerts and festivals throughout Illinois and Indiana.

The Lakeside Pavilion is located adjacent to the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd., on the campus of College of DuPage. In the case of inclement weather, concerts will be moved indoors to the Belushi Performance Hall and notice will be posted on the MAC's website, AtTheMAC.org.
