Lifeline Theatre Artistic Director Dorothy Milne announces the addition of the Chicago premiere of The Three Musketeers, an adaptation of the swashbuckling classic by Alexandre Dumas, to close out the company's 2012-13 season. The Three Musketeers replaces the previously announced Bridge of Birds and runs May 31–July 21, 2013.
The Three Musketeers, originally commissioned by the Illinois Shakespeare Festival for their 2010 season, was adapted by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Robert Kauzlaric (two-time Non-Equity Jeff Award-winning adaptor). The script was revised for a 2011 Indiana University production and will be further developed for its Chicago premiere at Lifeline Theatre, directed by 2nd Story Artistic Director Amanda Delheimer Dimond. In pursuit of his dream of becoming a Musketeer, young d'Artagnan travels to Paris, where he befriends the legendary Three Inseparables: Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. His acts of bravery catch the eye of King Louis XIII, but ensnare d'Artagnan in the deadly schemes of Cardinal Richelieu and the beautiful, yet depraved, Milady Clarik. When Constance, the love of his life, is kidnapped on the eve of war, d'Artagnan must weigh his loyalties to king and country, comrades-in-arms, and the callings of his heart. Journey from Paris to London, from countryside taverns to glittering palaces, from a humble Gascon farm to the siege of La Rochelle, in an epic tale of passion, intrigue, and adventure.
