Level 11 Theatre is back for their second production with the Chicago Premiere of THE IRISH CURSE by Martin Casella (Winner of 2005 New York International Fringe Festival overall excellence award for Outstanding Playwriting), directed by Associate Artistic Director Justin Baldwin (subUrbia). THE IRISH CURSE begins performances on May 19th, 2016 at The Den Theatre in Theatre 2A. The press performance is tonight, May 21st, 2016 at 7:30pm.
Martin Casella's comedy THE IRISH CURSE is a humorous and heartbreaking look at the lives of four average men who struggle to navigate life in our super-sized world. Size matters to this group of Irish-American men who meet every Wednesday night in the basement of Father Shaunessy's Church, a support group for men who have certain "shortcomings". One evening when an unknown blue-collar guy joins the group, he challenges everything the other men think about "the Irish curse"... tackling issues with body image and self-perception, unmasking the comical and truthful questions of identity, masculinity, sex and relationships.
The cast features Level 11 Theatre Ensemble members Logan Hulick , Dennis Bisto with Neil O'Callaghan, James Bould, and Rob Grabowski.
The designers of THE IRISH CURSE are Ensemble member Brendan Monte (sound designer), with David Trudeau (lighting), Joshua Claybaugh (set design). The stage manager is Rose Hamill and Arielle Gitlin is the assistant stage manager.
