The Kiss Kiss Cabaret producers Jenn A. Kincaid and Chris O. Biddle have announced the opening of a new retro-themed adult entertainment venue at 4707 N. Broadway. This 7,000 square foot speakeasy-style space will be called the "Uptown Underground." Located below street level, the Uptown Underground will host a 150 seat main stage and a 50 to 60 seat cabaret stage and is slated to open in Fall 2014.
Kincaid and Biddle are partnering with Thaddeus Wong of @PropertieS. Wong owns the building which was built in 1926 and was the former location of The Equator Club. Wong, Kincaid and Biddle are working with architect Jean DuFresne of SPACE Architects + Planners to renovate the space.
The Uptown Underground will be the new home of The Kiss Kiss Cabaret as well as a presenting space for other area burlesque companies and speakeasy style entertainment including cabaret, music, stand-up and vaudeville variety.
"When we started The Kiss Kiss Cabaret, Chris (O. Biddle) and I wanted to have a beautiful, functional performance space that would be dedicated to the arts of burlesque, cabaret, comedy and music," said Kincaid. "After three years building 'The Kiss Kiss Cabaret' show, we are ready to expand as well as provide a venue for other producers to showcase their talents. The Uptown Underground will strives to give the historical artform of burlesque a home in a city where it all started; where we can see beautiful, well-produced, vaudeville-style entertainments on their own stage with technical elements catered specifically to this style of theater. We're hoping to be a destination location for artists and tourists from all over the world. Show 'em a little Chicago shimmy!"
The Kiss Kiss Cabaret was voted best burlesque troupe in the Chicago Reader's 2013 Best of Chicago poll and is Chicago's longest running, weekly burlesque/comedy performance presenting a crowd-pleasing, modern spin on the classic vaudeville show since 2011.
