Kevin Wiczer's new play THE OBEDIENT SON will have a staged reading at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W Campbell St, Arlington Heights, IL 60005, on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 at 7:30pm.

Admission is Free. No tickets will be available for reserve or purchase for this stage reading. Seating is first come, first served. There will be a talkback afterwards.

Playwright Kevin Wiczer says, "This new play is near and dear to my heart. It is a play about a young man struggling with his sexuality and acceptance. As a gay man, I tried to hide my sexuality from people for eighteen years of my life. I was terrified of being who I really was, and scared about the consequences. Would my family and friends accept me? Would the world look at me differently? I was very fortunate to have a very supportive family and amazing friends to help me through. The sad thing is that I was one of the lucky ones. There are so many people today in the LGTBQ+ community that are treated horribly everyday of their lives for just being themselves. I hope this play will help to open some eyes to this extremely important issue. We all deserve love and acceptance. All of us."

Greg Whittmer has done everything his family expected of him. He was groomed to be a successful and wealthy lawyer starting from a young age, and to marry a woman from a wealthy family to follow in his family's footsteps. After years of being told what to do and complying, Greg has reached a turning point. Greg is a gay man being forced to live the life of a straight man. He has tried to ignore that part of himself all of his life in fear of being disowned and discarded by his family. However, after meeting Ben Stevens, a quirky and confident English teacher, Greg decides to rediscover himself. But there are always consequences for your actions.

Playwright: Kevin Wiczer (Lake Zurich). The Cast: Robert Lee Williams III (Chicago), Denise Tamburrino (Deerfield), Julia Macholl (Morton Grove), Tim Stompanato (Darien).
