Compilation is a new kind of coming of age story framed by the music writer and performer Kendra Stevens often found herself turning to. "A really good pop song can give you a mental vacation for three to five minutes," explains Stevens. Living with an alcoholic father and in-denial mother, escape came in the form of many kinds of music. From the humble pluckings in secret on her mother's guitar, to the dreamy fantasy of New Kids On The Block to the melancholy musings of Kristen Hersh, Stevens' journey to find her own words was paved with the music and lyrics of these and many others. Drawing from her background in film, writing, and stand up, Stevens creates an episodic, touching, yet hilarious look at how music can change our lives. "We all find ways to escape the stressful things in life, and in doing so, can become stronger people," says Stevens. Compilation is one woman's story of finding her own strength through music.Videos
