The Logan Center Penthouse Salon Series returns with lauded cabaret performer KT Sullivan tonight, February 15, 2014, at 8pm (doors at 7:30pm). Guests are invited to arrive at 7:30pm for a pre-show reception to enjoy light refreshments and fellow guests.
Sullivan salutes Mabel Mercer, performing songs introduced by "The Singer's Singer." The evening's program features classics including Love For Sale, Fly Me To The Moon, It Was Worth It, and While We're Young. After the show, there will be an artist meet-and-greet with non-alcoholic drinks. Guests with preferred cabaret seats ($40), which include tables preset with champagne, may finish their glasses.
Frank Sinatra said, "Everything I know about phrasing I learned from Mabel Mercer." He undoubtedly could have learned a few more things from the highly regardEd Sullivan. Having previously received the "Mabel Award" for Lifetime Achievement from the Mabel Mercer Foundation, Sullivan became the foundation's artistic director in spring 2012.
Sullivan recently appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with Brian Stokes Mitchell in Broadway Today!, and at the Humanities Festival in Chicago with Dave Frishberg. She has headlined at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Lincoln Center, The Spoleto Festival, The Nouvelle Eve in Paris, The Chichester Festival in England, and the Adelaide Festival in Australia. Sullivan was a guest star on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, has seven albums in worldwide distribution on the DRG label, and was awarded the Manhattan Association of Cabaret & Clubs' Outstanding Female Vocalist Award, presented by Liza Minnelli. Her Broadway credits include Suky Tawdry in Three Penny Opera with Sting and the leading role, Lorelei Lee, in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She also toured nationally as Dolly Tate in Annie Get Your Gun with Cathy Rigby. Sullivan has guest starred on Police Squad, Night Court, Remington Steele, Hardcastle and McCormick, Simon & Simon, Cabaret 13 with Michael Feinstein, and In Performance at the White House with Mary Martin.
With KT Sullivan, the Reva and Logan Center for the Arts and KMP Artists continue the Logan Center Penthouse Salon Series, showcasing exceptional artists in the classical recital, cabaret, and American songbook genres in an intimate setting. Concerts are held in the Logan Center's beautiful, ninth-floor performance penthouse, named the "Best View From A Performance Space" in The Reader's 2013 Best of Chicago.
Tickets are $40 for preferred cabaret seats (set with champagne; must be 21+), $30 for general admission, and $10 for UChicago students with valid ID. Purchase tickets online at ticketsweb.uchicago.edu, in person at the Logan Center box office, or by calling 773.702.ARTS.
