Joshua James - Album release show

Monday, April 3

$12/$15/$18/$20

Raised in Nebraska, Joshua James' work reflects a distinctly American ache: a yearning for a big sky and an open road. Familiar yet refreshingly innovative, James' songs are devastating in their honesty, working with themes that are intermittently elating, melancholic, and transcendent. After the commercial release of his first album in 2007, James spent the next five years touring across the United States and internationally to places such as Romania and Japan. His first two albums, The Sun Is Always Brighter and Build Me This, topped the year-end "Best of iTunes" lists. His next album, My Spirit Sister, is set to be released on April 7, 2017.

Shawn Mullins

Wednesday, April 5

$26/$28/$30/$32

Whether composing alone or with others Atlanta native Shawn Mullins has always been a dynamic songsmith. Forging influences from folk and R&B to traditional country and even Broadway musicals with pop-leaning melodic sensibilities, he crafts memorable, affecting tunes best defined as Americana. With a supple baritone that still allows him to channel Prince, as well as wail the blues and growl with grit - not to mention rock those talkin' rhythms - Mullins has been engaging audiences since he won his first high-school talent contest with his own composition. He readily admits that several of the songs on his most recent album, My Stupid Heart, address his perceived relationship failures. In fact, many were written as he was falling out of his third marriage; in the title tune, he chides himself for being such a romantic. But it's also a bit of a joke, he says, because he firmly believes in following his heart - no matter where it leads. That oh-so-fallible, yet essential part of our being is, it turns out, the guiding force behind just about every song on the album.

Becca Stevens

Monday, April 17

$10/$12/$15/$18

Since the release of her critically acclaimed third album, Perfect Animal, Becca Stevens has undertaken a journey that began with a study of Queen Elizabeth I as inspiration for a commission to write a concert of new music, which expanded into tributes to various queens from history, literature, folklore, and her own imagination, songs inspired by the regal and divine, and finally Regina as a voice, like a trusted friend or an alter ego. Stevens' style has always evaded categorization, and with her latest album, Regina, even more so. One hears pop, rock, R&B and funk side-by-side with traditional Appalachian and British folk, classical, world music, and jazz. Intricate instrumentation and rhythms seamlessly intertwine with vocals and melodies that work their way into your brain. Stevens has been compared to Bjork, St Vincent, Tori Amos and Joni Mitchell and is certainly making her mark on the international music scene in a big way, establishing herself as a long term and important artist for the future.

Robby Krieger of The Doors

Tuesday, May 9

$65/$75/$80/$85

1993 Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame inductee Robby Krieger (of The Doors) was once named by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Inspired at a young age by Chuck Barry, Krieger's latest release Singularity is a Grammy-nominated mix of his eclectic set of influences, resulting in a display of his guitar prowess. 2017 marks The Doors' 50th anniversary and Krieger is celebrating with a tour with the Robby Krieger Band which includes his son, Waylon Krieger.

The Blasters with The Delta Bombers

Friday, May 12

$28/$30/$32/$35

The Blasters exemplify the best traditions of American music, performing with passion and honesty that for more than three decades has won the hearts and souls of fans worldwide. Composed of founding members, vocalist-guitarist Phil Alvin; drummer Bill Bateman; and bassist John Bazz with Keith Wyatt on guitar, they carry on a hard-won legacy as one of the most recognizable and credible bands in American music. Their influences range from the likes of George Jones and Carl Perkins to Ike Turner, Howlin' Wolf, James Brown and Big Joe Turner, all blending into a sound that ignores the lines between Rock & Roll, Country, Blues and Rockabilly. Fun On Saturday Night is the Blasters' sixth and latest studio album, featuring twelve tracks that extend the band's legacy of classic recordings. Fronted by Phil Alvin's powerful vocals, the band follows through with spontaneity, power and grit that make their live performances into experiences not to be missed.

The Delta Bombers have smashed stages all over the world since 2008 and have no plans of stopping anytime soon. Driven by a hybrid of '50s rock and roll fused with blues and the most exciting elements of rockabilly, the band's haunting but powerful voice Chris Moinichen constantly keeps the songs fresh. The goal of the band has always been to build something people who wear gabardine, denim or mohawks could enjoy together. The Delta Bombers continue to tour domestically and internationally. What started as a teenage dream has now come to fruition as a worldwide rock and roll expedition.

Donna the Buffalo

Friday, May 19

$20/$22/$25/$28

One of the most dynamic and determined bands continuously touring America since 1989, Donna the Buffalo has created a community environment at their shows through their distinctive, groove-heavy and danceable music. The band is comprised of Jeb Puryear (vocals, electric guitar), Tara Nevins (vocals, guitar, fiddle, accordion, scrub board), David McCracken (Hammond organ, Honer Clavinet & piano), Kyle Spark (bass) and Mark Raudabaugh (drums). With roots in old time fiddle music that evolved into a soulful electric American mix infused with elements of Cajun, zydeco, rock, folk, reggae and country, at the core of Donna's music is social and moral responsibility. The band has released ten albums to date.

City Winery also announces that BubbLes Brown opens for Laith Al-Saadi on Mar. 2, Vance Gilbert opens for the Subdudes on Mar. 8 & 9 and Katie Rose opens for Howie Day on Mar. 16 & 17.
