To begin Valentine's Day celebrations, After Dark Award Winner for Outstanding Cabaret Artist Joan Curto who has been called "a cabaret icon" by NBC Chicago, will be singing songs about love and such in her new one woman show Nothin' but Love. Curto will be celebrating love in all it's various forms from the funny to the sublime. Songs will include classics from the Great American Songbook such as Gershwin's How Deep is the Ocean and Bill from the musical Showboat, to more contemporary songs by Amanda McBroom (The Rose) and Lyle Lovett.
Providing a showcase for Curto's classic, sultry styling and emotional versatility, this marks Joan's return to the Skokie Theatre after a year of performances across the Midwest. It also follows her recent smash new concert series in Chicago last November of which the Chicago Tribune's Howard Reich enthusiastically wrote "Curto has become a seasoned interpreter who makes the most of every note."Joining Joan on piano is Chuck Larkin, one of Chicago's most sought after musical directors, who most recently served as the associate musical director for one of Chicago's longest running shows Jersey Boys. This must-see concert takes place for one performance only at the Skokie Theatre, 7924 Lincoln Avenue, Skokie, on Saturday, February 5 at 8:00pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door for this special performance and are available by calling 847-677-7761 or via the internet at www.skokietheatre.org.
Praised by the Chicago Sun Times for her "bold and brassy voice," Curto is recognized as one of today's premier interpreters of the great American songbook and has appeared at many of the country's most prestigious music venues. Joan has performed at New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Room, Danny's Skylight Room and Helen's, the ASCAP and Chicago Humanities Festival concert series and the Mabel Mercer Foundation's New York and Chicago Cabaret Conventions.
