Jackalope's 11th season begins with the World Premiere of IN THE CANYON, written by Calamity West, directed by Elly Green, with the full cast and production team announced below.
IN THE CANYON runs October 23rd - November 25th, 2018 at Broadway Armory Park, 5917 N Broadway in Chicago. Tickets are $5 - $25, and are on sale now via www.jackalopetheatre.org.
IN THE CANYON is a new American saga by Calamity West spanning from 2007 to 2067. In an exploration of the present attack on abortion, this world premiere chronicles a story of survival, and imagines the decline of a broken society. When the sun begins to set on a shattered world, the canyon rocks and walls come alive and a story of resistance is birthed.

Calamity West Bio: Calamity West is a Chicago-based, award-winning, Kilroys-cited playwright. Most recently Calamity's work was seen at Steep Theatre Company with the world-premiere of her play HINTER in the winter of 2018. In January 2018 her play ENGINES AND INSTRUMENTS OF FLIGHT: A FANTASIA IN THREE ACTS, originally commissioned at The Goodman Theatre, had its first New York reading at The Roundabout where it continues to be developed. Another of her plays, GREETINGS FROM MOSCOW! A LOVE STORY, is currently in development at TimeLine Theatre Company's Playwrights Collective. Additional plays by Calamity West include: GIVE IT ALL BACK ( 2016, Kilroy-cited); ROLLING (2016); IBSEN IS DEAD (2014); THE PEACOCK (2013, Kilroys honorable mention); THE GACY PLAY (2012); and COMMON HATRED (2012). In 2014 Calamity was recipient of the 3Arts Award. She teaches playwriting at the University of Chicago and Webster University. Calamity is a company member of Jackalope Theatre, an artistic associate at Sideshow Theatre Company, and is represented by The Gersh Agency.
Jackalope Theatre expands American identity by engaging with our communities to produce works that celebrate diverse perspectives. The company, recipient of the 2015 Broadway in Chicago Emerging Theatre Award, produces three full-length plays in Broadway Armory Park each season, as well as a series of experimental, one-act, off-night, and late-night programming in The Frontier in Edgewater.
