Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co. will present the Chicago premiere of Gary Bairos' Jimmy Gamble at Angel Island, 735 W. Sheridan. It will open Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:30 p.m. and run April 3, 4, 9, & 10 at 10:30 p.m. with a special 7 p.m. performance on Sunday April 5. Tickets are $15 for all performances. Jimmy Gamble is a one-character drama written, directed and featuring Gary Bairos about The Life and times of a compulsive horseplayer. It is a 70 minute journey through one man's life focusing on his obsession with playing the ponies, the people who enter his world and his ultimate goal of fulfilling his grandmother's legacy, "Hitting the big one!" It is a tale of a man on a mission. A man who considers himself the greatest handicapper in the country.

Gary Bairos was born and raised in Northern California then moved to Tempe, Arizona to attend Arizona State University. He was the founding member of the writing group The Subterraneans, and earned a Bachelors Degree in English. After graduating, Bairos moved to New York. He made his stage debut in Clifford Odetts The Golden Boy at The Astor Place Theatre and went on to star in productions of The Best of Sex and Violence and Orphans at the 16th Street Theatre. Gary made his way to Los Angeles with the production of Orphans performing at the Odyssey Theatre. He then won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for his performance in The Indian Wants The Bronx by Israel Horovitz. He has since been seen in several other productions such as The Dreamer Examines His Pillow by John Patrick Shanley, Over Nothing At All by Natalie Sarraute and Antigone. He made his feature film debut in Somebody is Waiting, co-starring with Gabriel Byrne and Nastassia Kinski. Bairos has since starred in two independent films Rage and Lucky Devil. Gary has just completed the feature film version of Jimmy Gamble and is also in post-production with, The Junkyard Dogs, a documentary that he shot and directed about a private school wrestling team in Los Angeles.
