InFusion Theatre Company proudly announces the Midwest premiere of Qui Nguyen's Soul Samurai directed by InFusion Theatre Company Artistic Director Mitch Golob, April 25 - June 5, 2011 at Theater Wit, 1229 W Belmont Ave. Preview performances are Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26 at 8 p.m. Press/Opening night is Thursday, April 28 at 8 p.m. The performance schedule is Thursday - Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets for the previews are $10 and $25 during the run with student, senior and industry discounts available. Soul Samurai follows a young samurai girl, Dewdrop (
Christine Lin), and her sidekick Cert, as in death CERTificate (
Steven Thomas), through the mean streets of post-apocalyptic New York City. After avenging her lover's murder in the heart of Brooklyn, Dewdrop and Cert must fight there way home to Manhattan before the shoguns of Kings County find her and exact their revenge. Soul Samurai is a multi-media mix of martial arts, 1970's kung fu and blaxploitation films with a heavy infusion of hip-hop. This action-packed production of love, loss, and revenge runs approximately 1:45 with one intermission.
A live DJ, Jesse Livingston, provides musical accompaniment to the action on stage as well as spinning for the audience as they arrive and depart.

Qui Nguyen, originally from Arkansas, is a Brooklyn-based writer, fight choreographer and co-artistic director of the award-winning Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company. His scripts include Bike Wreck (produced at Youngblood and Metropolitan Playhouse); Trial By Water (produced at Ma-Yi Theater/Queens Theatre in the Park); Aliens Vs. Cheerleaders (Keen Teens); and the critically acclaimed Vampire Cowboys productions of Alice in Slasherland, Fight Girl Battle World, Men of Steel, Living Dead in Denmark, StaiNed Glass Ugly, A Beginner's Guide to Deicide, Vampire Cowboy Trilogy, and Soul Samurai. Qui is a proud resident playwright of New Dramatists, a co-director of the Ma-Yi Writers Lab, a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, an alumnus of Youngblood, an advanced actor/combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors, and the stage combat instructor for Columbia University.
InFusion Theatre Company seeks out new plays and organically "infuses" them with other elements of entertainment such as music, dance and film. We strive to create dynamic performances by combining different forms of entertainment that will result in both exciting and thought-provoking work. We focus on giving voice to new works, as well as looking at older works in a new way.
