Premieres October 22-24, 2009 at 7:30 PM with
Chicago Actors Wordshop Production of BREAD AND SALT.

Chicago Actors Wordshop kicks off Millennium Park's new intimate "In the Works" theater lab series with BREAD AND SALT, a poignant and humorous tribute celebrating the bold spirit of the laborers who built Chicago 100 years ago. In the series, audiences will get to sit on the stage of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, experiencing works in development by local theater artists or companies.

BREAD AND SALT, the premiere presentation of In the Works comes to the stage from October 22-24, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets to BREAD AND SALT are $10 and are available by calling 312.742.TIXS (8497) or by visiting www.dcatheater.org.

"We're so pleased to present this new series on the Pritzker stage and provide a place for Chicago's outstanding theater community to develop new work," said Ralph Flores, Artistic Director of Millennium Park. "The In the Works series is a great addition to our programming in Millennium Park outside of the summer months."

Created from more than 35 poems by Carl Sandburg, Bread and Salt is an ode to the working class, the immigrant dream and the sharp contrast between rich and poor. It has been developed by the Chicago Actors Wordshop, an ensemble of professional actors whose mission is to bring generations of fiction, poetry and non-fiction to life in group performance, using varied techniques of Readers Theater.

In the Works is supported by a grant from The Boeing Company Charitable Trust. Theater companies scheduled to participate in the In The Works theater lab series next year include Blair Thomas & Company (January 28-30, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.), Chicago Dramatists (March 25-27, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.) and Teatro Vista (April 15-17, 2010).

Millennium Park is located in the heart of downtown Chicago. It is bordered by Michigan Ave. to the west, Columbus Dr. to the east, Randolph St. to the north and Monroe St. to the south. Convenient parking is located in the Millennium Park Garage (entrance on Columbus at Monroe or Randolph) and at the Grant Park North and East Monroe Garages, all located within a short walking distance of Millennium Park.

Millennium Park, managed and programmed by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, is an award-winning center for art, music, architecture and landscape design. The result of a unique partnership between the City of Chicago and the philanthropic community, the 24.5-acre park features the work of world-renowned architects, planners, artists and designers. Among Millennium Park's prominent features are the Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the most sophisticated outdoor concert venue of its kind in the United States; the interactive Crown Fountain by Jaume Plensa; the contemporary Lurie Garden designed by the team of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol, Piet Oudolf and Robert Israel; and Anish Kapoor's hugely popular Cloud Gate sculpture. Since its opening in July 2004, Millennium Park has welcomed more than 16 million people, making it one of the most popular destinations in Chicago.
