Idle Muse Theatre Company, founded in 2005, opens its 2010-2011 Season with SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE, opening in July for a five-week run at the Side Project Theatre at 1439 West Jarvis in Rogers Park, Chicago. The show will be directed by Idle Muse Artistic Director EVan Jackson.
SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE, adapted by playwright Stephen Dietz, is not just any mystery, not just any adventure, and not just any story; it's the story of the end of Sherlock Holmes.
Drawn from the contents of several canonical Holmes stories, Dietz's adaptation of this 1899 collaboration between Doyle and Victorian stage actor William Gillette finds the Great Detective at the end of his career, contemplating a life empty of feeling as the specter of Dr. Moriarty descends upon London.
What happens when a man who has spent a lifetime making himself into the perfect machine for catching criminals meets a perfect adversary? What happens when that same man encounters the prospect of love? The game is afoot as Holmes and Watson strike out on one last case!
