"We are proud that I Love
You, You're Perfect, Now Change has been so popular in Chicago,"
said Producer Jonathan Pollard. "Being an active member of Chicago's
impressive theatre community for so many years has been a remarkable
and gratifying experience. We are grateful to Chicago theatergoers
for having embraced the show so warmly."
The revue has played nearly 4000 performances
in New York, where it is currently in its tenth year. Additional
productions have been mounted in more than 250 cities worldwide including
Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston, London, Tel Aviv, Mexico City, Barcelona,
Amsterdam, Budapest, Sydney, Prague, Seoul, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, and
Johannesburg, grossing more than $80 million.
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, "is a fast, funny and tuneful look at the
highs and lows of dating, romance and marriage. Striking a chore
of recognition in all who see it, the musical spotlights today's hot
pursuit for love and insistent fervor for relationships among the last
surviving special interest group in America - searching singles. The show
examines those secret thoughts we all share about dating, romance, marriage,
lovers, husbands, wives, and in-laws, but are afraid to admit," state press notes.
The revue features a versatile cast of four actors
who portray more than 60 roles in a collection of scenes and songs that
scale the spectrum of male/female relationships and probe the difficulties
and joys of connecting with another person, no matter what age.
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change has music by Jimmy Roberts and book and
lyrics by Joe DiPietro (All Shook Up); together, they recently collaborated on The Thing About Men. The original New York producers of James
Hammerstein Productions, Bernie Kukoff and Jonathan Pollard are joined
by Margaret Cotter and Liberty Theaters in presenting the show in Chicago.
The Chicago production is directed
by the original New York director, Joel Bishoff (Over the River and
Through the Woods Off-Broadway, The Sound of Music starring
Marie Osmond and Ken Hill's Phantom of the Opera). Bishoff
worked as Associate Director to James Hammerstein on the U.S. and Japanese
tours of My Fair Lady, The King and I and The Sound
of Music. The set and lighting design is by the original Off-Broadway
designer, Neil Jampolis and costume design is by Pamela Scofield.
