High Concept Laboratories NFP (HCL), a Chicago-based artist residency and arts service organization, today announced the Spring 2019 lineup of six artists selected for the Sponsored Artist Program (SAP), a four-month residency that invites multidisciplinary artists to develop new projects through workshops, performances, and other public events.

"High Concept Labs' Sponsored Artist Program is one of our most integral legacy initiatives and provides a space for local and itinerant artists to advance unique, beautiful, and challenging work," said Sharon Hoyer, director of HCL. "The artists selected for our Spring 2019 cohort represent a range of disciplines across theater, dance, sound, and multimedia, and bring a lot of great ideas to share with artists, audiences, and our communities in Chicago."

Six established and emerging artists and creative groups have been accepted to the Spring 2019 cohort, including:

The SAP lasts for four months and is held twice per year out of HCL's 1,700-square-foot rehearsal and performance space at Mana Contemporary, a rapidly expanding art center based in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. The SAP allows artists to focus on a single project for an extended term, and to facilitate creative dialogues between artists and audiences through a series of programs including Artist Talks, Works-in-Progress Showings, Workshops, Performances, and Critique Sessions.

Residents participating in the SAP are selected by HCL's Artistic Advisory Council, an experienced panel of established arts practitioners, critics, writers, and thinkers who work with HCL's staff to guide the direction of its programs.
