Heather Moran Announces
"Rosie!  A Tribute..." at Skokie Theatre

November 1st, 2008 8:00pm
Skokie Theatre
7924 Lincoln Ave Skokie, IL 60077

The Show
"Rosie! A Tribute" is a loving and well-told musical adventure spanning the 40 year career of the great Girl Singer, Rosemary Clooney. Heather Moran has deftly created a musical tapestry from the colorful life of Clooney, spanning from her birth in Maysville, Kentucky, through her nervous breakdown in the late 1960's, her mid 1970's comeback, all the way to her death in 2002.   Heather has assembled some of the hottest young jazz musicians in Chicago, including Damian Espinosa as musical director/pianist, Kevin Woods on bass, Jim Gifford on drums and a wonderful Chicago jazz singer and trumpet & flugelhorn player, Jeff Hedberg.  Heather is also thrilled to include two fantastic Chicago vocalists, Marymonica Thomas and Daryl Nitz

About Heather Moran
Born and raised in Illinois, Heather Moran has been performing for most of her life. She studied voice as a child at New Trier High School and Northwestern University in Illinois. As an adult, she studied opera at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pennsylvania, and the University of Colorado. She eventually returned to Chicago to earn a BA in Theater from Columbia College. Over the past several years, Heather has divided her time between her two loves: acting and singing.
As an actor, Heather has worked with numerous theater companies in Chicago, but most extensively with the Factory Theater, a storefront community theater company in their eleventh season with over 100 all original productions under their belts. Heather is also a Second City alumna skilled in improvisational theater.

As a singer, Heather has performed in many settings: nightclubs, weddings, private and corporate functions, and most notably, on Navy Pier's two premiere dinner cruise ships, Mystic Blue and The Odyssey. Some venues she has appeared at include: San Francisco's Empire Plush Room, Drury Lane Water Tower, Katerina's, Grant Park, Andy's Jazz, Park West, The Acorn Theater in Michigan's Three Oaks, Café Luciano, The Stonefire Restaurant, Tivoli, Tuscany-Wheeling, Webster's Wine Bar, Magnum's Steakhouse, Davenport's, Gold Star Sardine Bar, Martyr's, and Joy Blue. She just recently ended an 12-month engagement at Chicago Old Town's wonderful Bistrot Margot and can be seen frequently performing at Katerina's on Irving Park. She was recently a regular performer at Tivoli Ristorante in West Chicago and frequently performs for the city of Chicago's Cultural Affairs department.

Heather is currently singing in the critically acclaimed musical trio, 3Girls3, performing a nostalgic '40s show, a hit Burt Bacharach review, and a Christmas show. Frequently, Heather can be seen singing jazz with the Damian Espinosa Quartet and with Alan Gresick's eighteen piece Swing Shift Orchestra. Heather is an active member of Chicago Cabaret Professionals and currently serves on the board as Co-Press Governor.

Review Quotes

"...Even if she hadn't been evoking the style and era of Clooney, Heather Moran would have deserved the ovations she received for the bloom of her tone and the nuance of her interpretations..." --Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune

..."But it's on one of Clooney's most popular hits that Moran shines brightest, with her redefining interpretation of Hey There; this is not a woman who is handing out advice "like a mother," she's obviously in love herself with the man with the stars in his eyes, and Moran's portrait of this woman is a marvel." --Jeff Rossen, Cabaret Scenes

"What Heather captures ...is the essence of Rosie. Her lower range is rich like Rosie's. Her interpretations are open-hearted. Above all, Heather, like Rosie knows how to get to the kernel of a good tune." --Carla Gordon, Cabaret Scenes
