In December 1940, an east-bound cross-country train carries the bodies of the great American writers Nathanael West and F. Scott Fitzgerald as well as shy and religious May, who shares her seat with a charming young discharged flyer, Raleigh. As May (Amanda Drinkall) and Raleigh (Mike Tepeli) continue to cross paths over the years, an unlikely bond forms, one that continues to blossom in ways neither of them could ever expect. A funny, touching portrait of two people searching for happiness called "...a gently charming little play, reminiscent of Thornton Wilder in its look at rustic Americans who are to be treasured for their simplicity and directness..." by the Associated Press.
"On behalf of Haven Theater Company, I am positively thrilled that we have the opportunity to reunite these team-members from Strawdog Theatre Company's acclaimed and record-breaking runs of Great Expectations. Amanda and Mike bring with them truthfulness and electricity that is magnetic to watch on stage, and Jason continues to prove himself a stellar director, nurturing and focused. As anyone who saw Expectations can attest, these three are capable of truly brilliant collaboration - it is a producer's dream to bring such a powerful and proven Chicago artistic team to the stage once again for Arlene Hutton's touching, quirky and altogether beautiful play. It is with great pleasure that we welcome them to the Haven family this summer," shared Josh Sobel, artistic director of Haven Theatre Company.
The production team for Last Train to Nibroc includes: Catherine Allen (production manager), Brittany Dee Bodley (costume design), Joe Court (sound design), Daniel Drake (stage manager), Sarah Hughey (lighting design), Joanna Iwanicka (set design), Jamie Karas (props design), Kathy Logelin (dialect coach) and Rebecca Spooner (assistant director).
