Governors State University Hosts 'Mama's Night Out,' 5/7

Just in time for Mother's Day, three finalists from Nick at Nite's "The Search for the Funniest Mom in America" offer up giggles galore when "Mama's Night Out" brings its laugh out loud comedy to The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University on Saturday, May 7 at 8 p.m. Featuring a Southern Belle, Sassy Brit and Brassy New Yorker, each a star from Nick at Nite's Search for the Funniest Mom in America, the trio delivers rollicking sketches "by mothers for everyone." The Center hosts a complimentary pre-show party at 6:30 p.m. filled with treats for moms like drink specials, beauty treatments, door prizes and boutique items. Comediennes Karen Morgan, Nancy Witter and Sherry Davey will have the audience convinced that mamas know best. Each Mama takes the stage to perform her own family oriented, clean, stand-up routine. For the grand finale the three funny ladies come together for an old-fashioned joke-off complete with snare drum and rim shots. Audiences rave that "the show was a great escape from the kids and the family," and "we laughed so hard we got an instant face lift."

After years as a successful trial attorney, Karen Morgan became a full-time mother before launching her career as a professional comedienne. Just months after beginning her comedy endeavor, Morgan made her national television debut as a finalist on Nick at Nite's Search for the Funniest Mom in America. She has since then appeared regularly on television, radio and in comedy clubs and theaters nationwide. Morgan's radio spot, "The Mother Load," can be heard each week on the Coast Morning Show. Her recurring television segment, "You Gotta Be Kidding Me!" can be seen on NBC affiliate WCSH6. Morgan's book, "You Might Be A Mama!," is available in book stores and online. Born in Athens, Georgia, Morgan's southern accent is somewhat of an anomaly in Maine, where she now resides with her husband, three children, and a big dumb dog.

Nancy Witter is a three time New York City MAC Award winner, and was chosen by Backstage Magazine as one of the "Top 10 Comedians to Look for in 2005." Her performances were described by Backstage Magazine as having "hilarious, razor-sharp delivery and facial double takes like those of the great old-time comediennes." The New York Times said "She is the mother of two with razor sharp wit." Witter has appeared at among other places, the legendary Friars Club in New York City, as well as the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and at the Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City. She and her daughter Annie were recently featured in Lifetime Network's new show "Mom's Cooking". Witter lives in Floral Park, New York with her brand new husband whom she calls her "unpaid roadie". Witter was a single mother for 20 years and raised two children with the help of alcohol, comedy and social services.Sherry Davey is the ultimate bi-coastal lady. She was born in the United States but raised in England. For years her family went back and forth between the two countries, but her parents always made sure she saw American dentists regularly. Davey's comedic style was influenced mostly by her grandfather, Maxwell Lapham, who was a stand up comic and night club performer in London during the 1940s and '50s. Davey was seen most recently on Nick At Nite's "Search For The Funniest Mom In America" Seasons 1 and 2. She has regularly appeared on Comedy Central's "Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn" and "Premium Blend". Her most recent television appearances include Tru TV and NBC's "The Today Show." Davey was recently named one of the Hollywood Reporter's "Magnificent Seven" and voted one of the "Top 10 Comedians In NYC" by the Improper Magazine. She is the official Funny Mom at NBC's iVillage website Momtourage.com, and also a featured columnist in the new nationally distributed magazine HyBrid Mom.
