Choices, Background, Diversity, Social Injustices and Female Strength are all explored with the Midwest premiere of new play Malefactions, by New York playwright Matt Minnicino. The show will open on October 20th at 7pm at Gorilla Tango Theatre Company 1919 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago 60647. Performances will be October 20, 21, 26, 27 at 7pm and October 22 and 30 at pm. Tickets are $15; to purchase tickets call 773-598-4549 or visit gorillatango.com.

Malefactions, an all woman show featuring a diverse cast, will tell the story of four women lost in the world until they unite. They attempt to tell their story through poetry, fire and blood, but chaos ensues when an outsider is brought into the world. The girls are left facing these questions: Who is responsible? How culpable are all of us? What do we have the right to decide?

"The events of this show are a result of the inevitable in our society", director Kristina McCloskey states. "I feel their frustration. I feel it in the way I hate saying it's a show cast with five women as a novelty. I feel it when I want to scream for attention only so I can direct it back out to the places in the world where women can't scream without repercussions. I feel it in those quiet moments when I wonder whether fighting for equity in theatre, fighting for my chance to lead, to ask for unheard voices, is really doing anyone any good at all."

Malefactions features the talented ensemble of Charlee Cotton, Laura Elliott, Amanda Forman, Mary Claire Lyon and Jasmine Traylor. Each woman attempts to explore her status in the outside world as well as her status within the collective body of these lost girls. The production team is made up of Jim Alrutz (Sound Designer), Andrew Lehmkuhl (Lighting Designer), Rachel Rauscher (Set Designer), and Robin Waisanen (Stage Manager & Assistant Director). Together they create a world of claustrophobia and familiarity we experience in society.

The play is written by New York playwright, actor, director, and teacher Matt Minnicino. Matt having received his MFA from Columbia University has had his work produced or developed at numerous venues in NYC, as well as universities in Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado and Georgia, at the Barn Arts Collective in Maine and O'Neill Center in Connecticut, as well as in the New York, Shenandoah, and New Orleans Fringe Festivals. His articles have been published by The Dramatist and HowlRound, and he has served as a teaching artist at Barnard College and the American Shakespeare Center. This is the first time his work will be produced in Chicago.

Malefactions is being co-produced independently at Gorilla Tango Theatre Company.
