Genesis Theatrical Productions will open its staged reading series called First Generation on Monday, April 25 at 7:30pm with the Chicago premiere of Exit 27 by Aleks Merilo.

EXIT 27 is a thought-provoking play, based on real circumstances, about the Lost Boys of Utah. Excommunicated and exiled young men from the Fundamental Church of Latter-Day Saints are abandoned in the desert, left to fend for themselves for committing simple "sins" such as kissing a girl, listening to music, or watching television. Having received an inadequate education, survival is extremely difficult in the perilous and unrelenting environment they are thrust into. Disease ridden and desperate for salvation, these boys struggle to stay on a righteous path, hoping to earn forgiveness for their damning "wrongs.

Aleks Merilo is an award winning and internationally produced playwright from Palo Alto, California. He is a member of Playwrights West and the Dramatists Guild.

Appearing in the reading are: Andy Blaustein, Ryan Jendrycki, Murphy Mayer, Richie Shiraldi and Elizabeth Williams.

The reading is directed by Kaitlin Taylor who has joined Genesis as the director of the First Generation series. She has directed for 20% Theatre Company, Fury Theatre, St. Sebastian Players and Public House Theatre. She has also worked with TimeLine Theatre and Pittsburg Playhouse.

Genesis plans to present one staged reading a month to further fulfill its mission of bringing the best new works to the Chicago theatre community.

The reading will be at Redtwist Theatre, 1044 W. Bryn Mawr. The reading is free although donations are always welcome. For information call 773-800-1703 and leave a message. We will return your call as quickly as possible.
