Genesis Theatrical Productions, offering the best of new plays to Chicago, will present the world premiere of Jihad by Stephanie Liss running July 9 to August 2, 2015 at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont, Chicago
Jihad is the story of the terrorist actions of Hamas against the Israeli people, as lived through the eyes of Israelis and Hamas and the ramifications of those actions in all of their lives. Each act is set in the present and exposes the inner world of terrorism both in family, public, private and community.
Stephanie Liss is an award winning television writer of such work as Second Serve, the Renee Richard story starring Vanessa Redgrave, David-the David Rosenberg Story starring Bernadette Peters, Shameful Secrets starring Joanna Kerns and Hidden in Silence starring Kellie Martin. Ms. Liss has won numerous awards including Women in Film Luminas Award for depiction of women and social issues, She has been nominated for an Emmy Award, a Writers Guild Award and a Peabody Award.
Appearing in Jihad is Noor Hamdi, Mark Plonsky, Tricia Rogers and Lily Sauvage. The play is directed by Elayne LeTraunik.
Press opening is Sunday, July 5 at 3pm and Monday, July 6 at 7:30pm. The regular run of Jihad will be presented Thursdays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 8:45pm and Sundays at 2 and 5pm. There are no shows on Friday nights. Tickets are $30 with discounts for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more. Discounted tickets also available on Goldstar.
