Genesis Ensemble, a Chicago theater and performance company, announces the second extension of The Rest Unknown: how to live and how to die inspired by Maira Kalman's idiosyncratic blog turned book The Principles of Uncertainty.
From its original run and first extension, Genesis Ensemble has taken over three storefronts in Jefferson Park and lead the curious on a tour of art, performance, and bundt cake. Artistic Director Lindsey Barlag Thornton explains, "With the success of tours like CST's En Route and promenade pieces by companies like the Neo Futurists and Dog & Pony we decided to combine these ideas and create a jaunt that suggests what might happen if we all slowed down and looked at the details of life through the lens of whimsy and wonder."
Because each tour is limited to an intimate number of only twelve people and due to enthusiastic community response, The Rest Unknown is now playing 9 more times.
The space inhabited on each step of the tour is alternatively airy and light or cheerfully curated chaos. The transforming storefronts offer a dance studio, a gallery featuring work of local artists, a cozy nook of maps, an exhibit of personal collections (including a collection of audience members' voices that is simultaneously uploaded to tumblr), an afternoon tea party, and a few more surprises along the way.
The Genesis Ensemble has crafted a quirky, yet exquisite tour that offers insight and inspires wonder in the heart of even the most world-weary performance aficionado.
Directed by Libby Hladik, née Ford, The Rest Unknown extends to play Wednesday April 11 at 8 PM and Mondays and Tuesdays April 16th - May 8th at 8 PM The tour originally played March 16 – 31, 2012 with Friday tours beginning at 8 PM and Saturday tours at 1, 3, and 5 PM. 1st extension played April 2, 5, and 6 at 8:00 PM.
