Beware the ides of March, and be generous in the FIVES OF MARCH. That's what Chicago sketch comedy mainstay GayCo Productions will be telling its supporters as it launches its biggest annual fundraising extravaganza, held throughout the month of March.
GayCo (www.gayco.com)?-now in its 18th year of creating subversive, thought-provoking LGBTQ comedy--has held the FIVES OF MARCH fundraiser for three consecutive years. The company asks for any and all donations that include the number five: $5, $25, $105, etc.
"We are completely non-profit, meaning all those wigs and phallic props don't buy themselves," says ensemble member Clay Goodpasture. "We need contributions from generous fans and supporters to keep delivering great sketch comedy and pushing LGBTQ comedy forward."
Goodpasture also notes that, since GayCo is a 501(c)3, all donations are completely tax-deductible.
In support of the FIVES OF MARCH, throughout March, GayCo will be performing in several variety shows across the city, creating all-new video and satirical online content, and even holding an all-you-can-drink live fundraiser at The Waterhouse (3407 N. Paulina) on March 29th to cap the month. All information can be found at www.gayco.com.
GayCo was founded at The Second City in 1996 and, for 18 years, has entertained audiences across Chicago, the country and the world. Even after all those years, GayCo has made it its mission to retain its edgy, intelligent brand.
"We may seem as old as Liza, but we're actually exactly as old as Lorde, and she's cool as hell," says ensemble member John Loos. "We're still here, still creating fierce and fascinating comedy, and still pushing the boundaries of LGBTQ theater. And that's truly due to the generous and amazing donations and contributions we've received over the years from GayCo superfans."
The FIVES OF MARCH runs March 1 through March 31st. Donations can be made through the GayCo web site or directly on their fundraising page at www.indiegogo.com/projects/fives-of-march-2014.
