In 2012, Aurora Theatre Funny Fridays introduces a new permanent host for the club comedy performances on the square in downtown Lawrenceville on January 20, with shows at 7:15 & 9:15 PM.

Aurora Theatre is proud to welcome comedienne Debra Cole as the new host of Aurora Theatre Funny Fridays. Atlanta comedy enthusiasts know Debra’s wry humor from her many performances as a solo act and part of the Mixed Nuts comedy troupe, a Funny Fridays mainstay. Born on April Fool’s Day, Debra’s sassy audience interaction and left-hook delivery are sure bets to bring the laughs and set the pace for visiting comedians, making Funny Fridays the best comedy show in the metro area.

About the Comedians: "Joining Debra for her first show as host, a couple of comedians who have fallen so far off the corporate ladder you will laugh till it hurts. Good thing Lavar Walker is a certified pharmacist with just the cure for all your ailments, but he’s not prescribing Zoloft, Ambient or Paxil. What this pharmacist recommends is a dose of laughter, two tablespoons of chuckles and a booster shot of good times. Good chance you will recognize Lavar from performances on Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza or Robert Townsend’s Partners in Crime.

Gilbert Lawand has strayed far from the office water cooler to be named the South’s Funniest Accountant in 2009. Since then Gilbert has performed in clubs all over the country including the Hollywood Improv and Comedy Store in Los Angeles, as well home-based Atlanta clubs the Punchline, Funny Farm and Laughing Skull. He has shared the stage with comedy greats Greg Proops, Bobcat Goldthwait, Ron White and was part off the Muslims are Coming Comedy Tour that filmed at Aurora Theatre. Gilbert’s background is unique: born in Baghdad to Catholic parents before moving to a farm in a small town in South Georgia when he was 6 years old. This probably explains why he seems anxious most of the time. To relax, Gilbert can be found enjoying some of the simpler things in life like fine wine, stimulating conversation and long romantic walks through strip clubs."
