Taylor John, who performed on Broadway in the role of Gavroche in the early 90's, died Tuesday morning at the age of 28. John had been struggling with depression for several years, reported his sister Tamara Mannelly, who said that John died as a result of a seizure and heart failure caused by an overdose of prescription drugs. John was the son of former White Sox pitcher Tommy John.
Prior to his stint on Broadway, John played Gavroche in the National Touring Company of 'Les Miserables' where he spent one year. He was also active in local choirs singing with two north suburban churches. In recent years, John worked as a teacher's assistant at Deerpath Middle School in Lake Forest.
Visitation is set for 1PM on Saturday March 13 at St. Patrick's, 991 S. Waukegan Rd. Lake Forest, in Chicago. A service will follow at 2PM.
