Fearless Theatre presents THE STONEWATER RAPTURE at The Frontier Theater in Edgewater June 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30pm. Proceeds will go to Rape Victim Advocates of Chicago.
THE STONEWATER RAPTURE, written by Doug Wright, (Quills, Grey Gardens, I am my Own Wife) was originally produced at the Yale University Dramatic Association in 1983, and subsequently at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1984. Now, thirty years later Fearless Theater will produce the Chicago premier of this explosive script.
THE STONEWATER RAPTURE follows the sexual discoveries of two teenagers, Carlyle and Whitney, who find themselves struggling to piece together their trust in religious doctrines with the undeniable truth of life's unanswered complexities. The lack of parental awareness, and toxic cruelty of high school leaves the two ill-equipped to face the events leading to the biggest decisions of their lives.
Wright's script is a touching vehicle for addressing the reality of the threatening environment of high school, and the lasting effects it presents the vulnerable youth. With this theme driving the plot, Fearless Theater has chosen to produce Wright's script in conjunction with the Rape Victim Advocates of Chicago to spread awareness and fight sexual crimes.
Last year, Fearless Theater raised $1,000 for the Tyler Clementi foundation with their production of Bert V. Royal's DOG SEES GOD: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead.
Guest director, Ray Frewen, leads the cast/co-founders of the Fearless Theatre Company. Frewen received his M.F.A. from Asolo Conservatory/Florida State University, and B.A. from Illinois State University. An accomplished director and actor, Frewen appeared in the national tour of LES MISERABLES (Javert), and served as artistic director of Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace from 1998-2005. Presently he serves as an artistic associate producer for Apple Tree Theatre, and Assistant Direct & Associate Professor of Theater at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
The cast consists of Fearless Founders Derek Herman and Hillary Horvath. Herman, director of last year's DOG SEES GOD, was most recently onstage at the Raven in Jeff Recommended GOOD BOYS AND TRUE (Justin). Horvath, who played Tricia in DOG SEES GOD, was recently at the Frontier with The Arc Theater as part of the arciTEXT, new works play festival this spring.
