Erasing The Distance Announces IGNITE 2018 ImageErasing the Distance announces the organization's annual benefit, IGNITE 2018. The event is in the Erin Ballroom at the Irish American Heritage Center on Sunday, April 22, from 5-9 p.m.

To celebrate this year's organizational growth, and to appreciate and acknowledge those who make the work of Erasing the Distance possible, IGNITE 2018 features cocktails, culinary delights by local chef Zeeshan Shah, stellar auction items, and a series of powerful performances from the expansive library of Erasing the Distance stories.

IGNITE is an opportunity for the community, supporters, and friends of Erasing the Distance to come together and celebrate the transformative impact of sharing true stories about mental health. Erasing the Distance demonstrates the power collaboration and artistic talents can have on a social justice movement.

"As a group, we are committed to collecting and sharing stories about mental health issues. Collecting stories is healing for the teller and for the listener. Then, once those stories are shaped by our talented artists and shared by professional actors, an even larger group of people can recognize paths to healing. Our work is about starting a conversation, and we are doing that every day," says Interim Artistic Director Heather Bodie.

Every year Erasing the Distance raises critical revenue through IGNITE sponsorships, ticket sales, contributions, and auction proceeds. These funds are used to further the organization's mission of using the power of performance to disarm stigma, spark dialogue, educate, and promote healing surrounding issues of mental health.

About Erasing the Distance

Founded in 2005, Erasing the Distance uses the power of performance to disarm stigma, spark dialogue, educate, and promote healing surrounding issues of mental health. Erasing the Distance collects true stories from people whose lives have been impacted by mental health issues. We sculpt the stories into theatrical pieces for the stage, which are then performed by professional actors. Every performance is followed by a moderated, interactive dialogue with the audience that addresses the themes they have just seen.

Erasing the Distance is artistically led by Heather Bodie. Bodie is the Interim Artistic Director and has been working with Erasing the Distance since 2013. Since the organization was founded in 2005 by Brighid O'Shaughnessy, Erasing the Distance has reached over 65,000 audience members through public performances, custom programs and training and education programs.
