The Dominican University Performing Arts Center in River Forest, IL, will play host to Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theatre on Saturday, January 29th, at 7:30pm. Join DUPAC for an evening of passionate, fiery flamenco with "one of Chicago's fiercest companies in any dance style" (Time Out Chicago).
Time Out Chicago named both founder Dame Libby Komaiko and Associate Artistic Director Irma Suarez Ruiz on their 2010 list of 14 indispensable female artists and determined dance catalysts, and their 2010 list of men who stole the spotlight in Chicago dance, included José Torres as a "powerhouse" saying he "unloaded a ferocious fusillade of flamenco footwork."
The Ensemble's extraordinary repertoire contains original work by Dame Libby Komaiko, Edo, Maria Alba, Victorio Korjhan, Roberto Lorca and Spain's legendary dancers and choreographers Juan Mata & Ana Gonzalez, founding members and former first dancers of the National Ballet of Spain. Works by Timo Lozano, Edo, Paco Alonso, folkloric authority Juanjo Linares,and Flamenco master Manolete all exemplify the Ensemble's dedication to its cultural and artistic mission. Dame Libby Komaiko was the first American artist in history to be decorated with Spain's highest honor- "Lazo de Dama" "Ribbon of the Dame" by the King of Spain for her artistic, cultural and educational work throughout the United States.
