Emerald City Theatre (ECT) Artistic Director Jacqueline Stone announced casting today for the Chicago premiere of The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats, adapted from the books by Ezra Jack Keats by Jerome Hairston and directed by Jacqueline Stone with movement direction by Aileen McGroddy.
The cast of The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats features Terry Bell (Peter), Kirra Silver (Amy/Female Player), Felix Mayes (Dad/Archie/Male Player), and Sydney Charles (Mom/Female Player).
"We are honored to have an incredibly talented and creative set of artists for our 100th production at Emerald City," says Stone. "I know our audiences will enjoy our actors' backgrounds in movement, puppetry, and ensemble work. They are tackling the challenge of bringing these well-known characters from literature to life and infusing them with their own modern perspectives. I am honored to have them with us for this landmark production."
Celebrating first experiences, young Peter's childhood adventures are told through shadow puppetry and movement for a visual feast in Emerald City Theatre's 100th production! Enjoy the enchantment of a small child growing up in the big city experiencing a first snowfall, a first pet, and a first crush. Featuring the first African American protagonist in a full-color picture book series, four of author Ezra Jack Keats' best-selling books - including two Caldecott Awardwinners - are combined to bring this captivating and poignant play to life.
The creative team also includes Martin Andrew (Scenic Designer), Branimira Ivanova (Costume Designer), Rachel Levy (Lighting Designer), Joe Court (Sound Designer), Letitia Guillaud (Props Designer), and Alex Weisman (Casting Director).

Serving over 80,000 children and their grown-ups annually, the company has created nearly 100 productions and over 605,000 performances at the Apollo Theater in Lincoln Park, the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place, and its very own Little Theatre - the nation's first facility dedicated to Theatre for the Very Young - in Lakeview. ECT also builds skills in children through its yearly camps, classes, and residencies - the largest theater arts education program in Chicago, serving over 62,000 students to date and 200 schools annually. The company's outreach initiatives make ECT programs available to any child of any household income level by providing free plays and companion books to children in under-served neighborhoods. To date, over 23,000 students have been served, and in March of 2016, ECT additionally served all 30,000 CPS second-grade students in a ground-breaking partnership with Random House Publishing and KPMG - Family for Literacy.
