Drury Lane Theatre announces it will open its 2017-2018 season with Chicago, the first production of the show to be produced in the city of Chicago in more than three decades. Jeff Award Winning Artistic Director, William Osetek, will direct the iconic musical, based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and the script adaptation by David Thompson. Chicago runs March 30 - June 4, 2017 at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.
Chicago first opened on Broadway in 1975 where it ran for more than two years, followed by its West End debut in 1979. The production was revived in 1996, winning six Tony Awards and has enjoyed countless North American tours and international productions. As the first Chicagoland theater company to produce Chicago in more than 30 years, Drury Lane will offer audiences the chance to see this show anew with its fresh take on this classic musical.
Set in 1920s Chicago and based on real-life murders and trials, Chicago follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe vaudevillian star who murders her lover and is arrested, despite her attempts to convince her pushover husband, Amos, to lie for her. In the Cook County Jail, Roxie meets her hero, the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly. When both acquire the same superstar lawyer, Billy Flynn, tensions come to a head as they vie for the spotlight.

Next up at Drury Lane is Ira Levin's murder mystery Deathtrap, June 9 - August 14, 2016, followed by Smokey Joe's Café, featuring the iconic songwriting of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, September 1 - October 23, 2016, and the feel-good Gershwin musical Crazy For You, November 3, 2016 - January 8, 2017. The season will conclude with a revised version of Saturday Night Fever, based on the popular '70s film with music by The Bee Gees, January 19, 2017 - March 19, 2017.
