Doghouse Ensemble Theatre and Third Onion Productions present GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES by Rajiv Joseph. This heartbreaking comedy bluntly showcases the beauty and pain of friendship. Over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at unexpected moments, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that draw them together. These pivotal junctures drive them to contemplate the range of human experiences available in the 21st century.
Ben Brantley in the New York Times says "the play's... characters are compelled to act out their bruising fates by forces they never question or understand. "Gruesome Playground Injuries" plays on the same perversely romantic appeal of self-destruction through unhappy love that has throbbed through Top 40 ballads for half a century."
Mairon Meisel in the Hollywood Reporter called the play's dialogue "fascinating."
The Doghouse/Third Onion production is directed by Julia Steenstra with NIU BFA Acting candidates Zoe Greenwald playing Kayleen and Mikkel Knutson portraying Doug.
