STUPID f-ing BIRD, a Sideshow Theatre Company production running through August 30th at Victory Gardens Theater, will hold a panel discussion on Friday, August 21st immediately following the 7:30 p.m. show. The panel will feature theatre historian and dramaturg Dassia N. Posner (of no relation to playwright Aaron Posner) as she discusses her take on this "sort-of-adaptation" of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull.
Dassia N. Posner is an assistant professor of theatre at Northwestern University, where she teaches Russian theatre history, history of directing, dramaturgy, and puppetry. Recent production dramaturgy at Steppenwolf Theatre Company includes Grand Concourse, Russian Transport, and Chekhov's Three Sisters, for which she was also Tracy Letts's dramaturgical translator. She is co-editor with Claudia Orenstein and John Bell of The Routledge Companion to Puppetry and Material Performance (2014). Her forthcoming book, The Director's Prism (NUP 2016), analyzes the vividly theatrical productions of Meyerhold, Tairov, and Eisenstein. She studied at the Moscow Art Theatre School and is a graduate of Tufts University and Bates College.
Directed by Jonathan L. Green, STUPID f-ing BIRD was written and adapted by Aaron Posner. This heartbreakingly hilarious production takes a baseball bat to Chekhov's famous work and staunchly refuses to pick up the pieces.
STUPID f-ing BIRD runs through Sunday, August 30, 2015, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 pm; Saturdays at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm and Sundays at 3 pm. Tickets range from $15-$49. Tickets are available at www.victorygardens.org or by calling the Victory Gardens box office at (773) 871-3000.
