The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, in partnership with the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, and DCA Theater in association with Halcyon Theatre presents a workshop performance of "The Americans," an original ensemble-driven piece that explores the question, "What does it mean to be an American?" During the month-long DCA Theater Incubator Series, Coya Paz developed a script from scratch in collaboration with Halycon Theatre based on real life interviews and conversations with people across ten U.S. states.

Raised in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil before moving permanently to the United States in 1987, Coya Paz is a co-founder of Proyecto Latina. Coya teaches theater at Columbia College, and holds a PhD in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. She is a regular commentator for Vocalo.org
(89.5 FM) and has published several articles on Latina performance, Latina/o identities, and public violence.

Halcyon Theatre is committed to making the stage as diverse as the city of Chicago by presenting new voices from inadequately represented communities, as well as re-casting classic works to showcase their contemporary relevance.
