Ouroboros Theatre Company becomes an Actors Equity company and announces the world premiere play Cyrano: Translated: at Theatre Building Chicago, July 11 - August 3, featuring Chicago veteran Ron Keaton
In the world premiere play, Cyrano: Translated, the lives of three extraordinary writers intertwine in an elegant and moving story that explores the origins of inspiration and the lives of artists and their muses. Cyrano: Translated flows seamlessly between the worlds of the historic Cyrano de Bergerac in the 1600's, the French playwright, Edmond Rostand, in the 1890's and American writer, Brian Hooker, who translated Rostand's masterpiece to English for the Broadway stage in the 1920's. Fascinating historical facts and characters mix with a personal and original interpretation of how their lives affected one other and the works they created.
Cyrano: Translated is written and directed by Ouroboros Theatre Company (OTC) Artistic Director, Lara Filip-Tibble. Best recognized in Chicago as a musical theatre actress, Filip-Tibble is quickly becoming known for her work as a playwright and director, having received critical praise for her recent adaptation and direction of Bohemian Theatre Ensemble's Sophocles Electra. This production marks OTC's first production as an Actors Equity Association theatre and features beloved Chicago veteran, Ron Keaton in the dual roles of Constant Coquelin and Walter Hampden, both of whom originated the role of Cyrano in their times.
The production also features Scott J. Sumerak as Edmond Rostand, Andrew Staton as Charles D'assoucy (both OTC company members), Michael Sherwin as Brian Hooker, Maura Kidwell as Doris Hooker, Courtney Boxwell as Renee Robineau, Jonathan French as Cyrano de Bergerac, Erin Ordway as Madeleine Robineau, Jeff Dolecek as Henri LeBret, Sara Stern as Sarah Bernhardt, Alex Dorsey as Rosemonde Gerard, Sarah Pitard as Mary Marquet and Collin Tongue as Moliere and the Duke D'arpajon.
