Get as close to the music as possible with 42nd Parallel - Chicago's only self-conducted orchestra. 42nd Parallel is proud to present the second concert of the 2014-15 season, performing the music of Charles Ives, Richard Wagner, and W.A. Mozard on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 7 pm. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at gorillatango.com/bucktown or by calling 773-598-4549. All performances take place at Gorilla Tango Bucktown, 1919 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647.
The concert, part of a season-long exploration of how a self-conducted orchestra works, will explore the idea of communication through music, both between musicians and with the audience. The repertoire is specifically chosen to highlight this idea: Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question is musical conversation about the meaning of existence, Mozart's joyful final symphony (named for the king of the Roman gods) requires constant communication within the orchestra, and Wagner's luscious Siegfried Idyll is a piece of communication itself: a birthday gift to his wife on the occasion of the birth of their son, Siegfried.
