Citadel Theater AS YOU LIKE IT To Make Its U.S. Debut

People don't just like Daryl Cloran's reimagined version of the Shakespeare classic As You Like It - they love it! This week, Chicago Shakespeare Theater announced that Cloran's Beatles-inspired production, presented in association with Citadel Theatre and Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, will make its American debut as part of their 2019/2020 Season.

Last summer, Cloran, the Citadel's artistic director, and the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival created a Beatles-inspired version of As You Like It for Vancouver audiences. Heralded as "...one of the most joyous productions in Bard's history," by the Vancouver Sun, it was the best-selling production in the 30-year history of Bard on the Beach. Set in the 1960s and filled with 25 Beatles songs (and some pro wrestling!), this groovy, fun-filled musical, directed by Cloran, plays at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre in January 2020 and at the Citadel Theatre from February 15 to March 15, 2020. The Chicago Shakespeare Theater production will begin in May 2020, also directed by Cloran, and featuring a cast of Chicago actors.

This marks the second collaboration between the Citadel Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the first being a production of the Olivier Award-nominated musical Six. The popular musical, based on the scandalous stories of the six wives of Henry VIII, will have its North American Premiere at Chicago Shakespeare Theater next month, and its Canadian Premiere at the Citadel Theatre in November 2019.
