Cast and crew were announced today for Citadel Theatre Company's November-December production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's musical JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, according to founding Artistic Director Scott Phelps. The production will be directed by Robert D. Estrin, who most recently at Citadel directed the company's Jeff Award-nominated EXPLORERS CLUB and has also helmed the musicals A CHRISTMAS STORY, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM and CABARET.
JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT tells the Old Testament story of Joseph and his brothers through contemporary eyes with songs like "Any Dream Will Do" and "Close Every Door." AEA member David Sajewich will play Pharoah and Joseph's father Jacob. Sajewich was acclaimed for his performance as Bobby in Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY for Mercury Theatre this past summer. He spent last year's holiday season as George Bailey in A WONDERFUL LIFE: THE MUSICAL at Theater at the Center. The production's Joseph will be Jacob Barton. North Carolina native Barton, who moved to Chicago last year, just finished an engagement as Edward Rutledge in 1776 for Temple Theatre in Sanford, NC. Jointly playing the Narrator at all performances will be Carmen Risi, (Sonia in THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG for Brown Paper Box last year); and Laura Thoresen (a recent grad of CCPA at Roosevelt University who has also appeared in the off-Broadway show SCIENCE FAIR).
Appearing as Jacob's brothers will be Marcellus Burt, Eric Deutz, Derek Fawcett, Peter Gertas, Ryan Jozaitis, Artem Lazarev, Brian Mengler, Shane Roberie, Kyle Ryan, Benjamin Salt, and Ryan Smetana. The ensemble will include Traci Cidlik, Lily Cox, Jenna Fawcett, Chamaya Moody, and Brittani Moore. Derek Fawcett will also play Potiphar and understudy the roles of Pharoah and Jacob. Jenna Fawcett will play Potiphar's wife and understudy the Narrator. Salt will understudy Joseph. There will also be a children's chorus of performers to be announced shortly.
Two-time Jeff Award winner Ryan Brewster will be Music Director and Jake Ganzer will be choreographer. Also on the design and production team are 2018 Jeff Award winning scenic designer Eric Luchen, Sarah Lake Rayburn (costume designer), Diane D. Fairchild (lighting design), Mark Holley (properties design), Bob Boxer (sound design), Nicole Delpizzo (scenic artist), and Samantha Tink (stage manager). Casting is by Robin Hughes, Metropolis Casting.
Citadel's holiday musical will be Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's ever-popular JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, which tells the Old Testament story of Joseph and his brothers through contemporary eyes with songs like "Any Dream Will Do" and "Close Every Door." Robert D. Estrin, a frequent Citadel collaborator, who directed Citadel's A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL in 2016 and THE EXPLORERS CLUB this past spring, will direct. His cast will include an ensemble of local youth alongside the adult professionals in principal roles. JOSEPH will play throughout the holiday season, opening Friday November 16 and running through Sunday, December 23rd.
